2019 J.E.E. Bilingual Eco-Calendar
"12 Months in Touch with Soil"

Calender Image"Soil" seemed a natural choice this year for the theme of J.E.E.’s Eco-Calendar, following "Green," "Light," "Water," and "Wind."

The "Soil" under our feet is a solid foundation that supports life. "Soil" absorbs "Water" and nurtures "Green," aided by “Light." Our diet mostly depends on what "Soil" produces.

However, what we call soil is actually very thin and transient. We are reminded of this whenever a big natural disaster occurs, sometimes with deep suffering....

"Soil" is absolutely essential, but we seldom think about it or touch it in daily life. Maybe we don’t really know what soil really is.

Desiring to get in touch with the earth once again, we found many aspects of soil which we would like to share with you in this calendar.

Mr. High Moon (Hiroshi Takatsuki) has been illustrating this calendar for 28 years, since production began. For each month we describe activities that children can participate in, and we will be very pleased if you spend these 12 months experiencing "Soil" together with the Eco-neko, who appears again this year.

The text is bilingual, so please use it for language study as well.

We also note particular days concerning environmental problems, that we would like to remember.

At the bottom of each calendar page, as usual, you can see the average hours of daylight for each month, which change significantly throughout the year. Also included are the phases of the moon, and reminders of the 24 seasonal turning-points.

A life harmonized with the environment is surely born from "Soil" and will return to "Soil." We hope we can always remain connected to "Soil" in this way.
